Mapping the manifold: challenges and horizons of pedagogical research in charting new emerging subjectivities

Abstract

The rapid techno-scientific evolution of our times is constantly altering the conditions of people’s lives. This instability has disorienting yet, paradoxically, standardising effects, in that it directs the construction of subjectivities capable of meeting the challenges of the present according to performative, ableist and homogenising logics. However, within the fabric of this process, plural subjectivities emerge that elude traditional interpretative categories, remaining on the margins. Yet it is precisely from their difference and the transformative potential it holds that pedagogy can start afresh to design sustainable educational pathways. Following these lines of inquiry, this paper aims to reflect on the challenges facing pedagogical research in recognising emerging subjectivities, identifying functional strategies within the post-qualitative and inclusive approach to map new ways of inhabiting the world, from which to creatively redesign the existing.
