The photovoice methodology in early childhood contexts. A participatory and critical approach to living the present

Abstract

The paper explores the pedagogical potential of photovoice as a participatory and critical methodology that recognizes children as active agents in the co-construction of knowledge. In an adult-centered society, where children are often marginalized, photovoice promotes listening to underrepresented voices and encourages a conscious use of visual media. Situated within a context of social and technological change, the methodology fosters expression, participation, and critical reflection. Through self-produced photographs, children express their perspectives on the world, making visible viewpoints that are often overlooked. This process generates empowerment and democratic intergenerational dialogue, contributing to a more inclusive, just, and participatory education.
